Samurai has been removed from this site on request by the rights owner, who has withdrawn the permission granted in the past.
Currently existing games will be allowed to run to completion but it will not be possible to create new Samurai games.

I actually own the board game and it was nice that I could hone my skills online.

That's a shame.... I also own the game. I actually purchased it recently after playing two games online. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. That's not good marketing. |

The good doctor recently withdrew permission to host another game at Yucata.de. Looks like MaBi isn't the only site affected. |

I can't believe it!! What a sad notice... I have a copy of the game but online is the only place where I can find really competitive players to play with.
This is TERRIBLE. |

:'( Hopefully it can return one day. In any case thank you for implementing it, and hosting it for as long as you legally could. |

:? MaBi... did they offer a price quote for licence? I would pony up some cash to keep it here. It is my second favorite game. Right after In the Shadow of the Emperor.
Though I will understand if you do not want to deal with that level of hassle.
That would change your site characteristics quite a bit. |

Right on. It was awesome while it lasted. Would love to see it return someday. |

Yes, they did, but that's not going to happen: this is just a free site I did in my spare time as an enthusiast gamer, it is not and will never be a commercial site. Moreover, paying the license for a game would be unfair to all those who offer their permission for free, so that's totally out of the question.
Samurai will never be back on MaBiWeb, but no hard feelings toward Knizia, I thanked him for having allowed the game so far and if he now thinks this change is best for his business... well, I disagree but obviously it's entirely up to him.
More than 18000 Samurai games have been played in the years it was available, so I don't think the time I spent on the game was wasted.

I appreciate that you made it available as long as you could. |

I've played a lot of Samurai on this site and it makes me sad knowing that it's coming to an end. Thank you for hosting it for as long as you did. It was a lot of fun while it lasted.
My wife calls it the colors game because she sees me playing it on my laptop from a distance and just sees a bunch of colors on the screen. I had finally gotten her to look at it and was going to try to get her to play in the hopes that we'd get it for the house, but I'm not sure I want to buy it and find out she'll never play.
I haven't played much of the other games here - is there a good game you guys would recommend as a replacement? |

You are correct. I didn't consider that. With that thought in place I think you are fair and wise to not think about paying the fee.

No it was not wasted. I have even made a good friend entirely though our conversations and enjoyment of over 60 2-player games of Samurai.
I kept a good friend entertained while stationed in Afghanistan through dozens of games of this.
And I have introduced a couple of people Euros through it.
Thank you so much MaBi for the work you did. It was a great blessing to me this past year.
I came for In the Shadow of the Emperor but found Samurai to be a real gem. |

It is a shame but as you (MaBi) yourself pointed out on Yucata there was a strong possibility that this could happen.
I'm not sure where Knizia is going with this. Is withdrawing the game more or less likely to encourage people to buy it? Is that the motivation even? As has already been mentioned by some of the respondents they already own the game specifically as a result of playing the on line version, as was the case with Schotten Totten on Yucata. In any case it is Mr Knizia's invention and therefore his to do with as he feels.
I'm grateful to you for the implementation as I am also grateful to you for hosting this site. This was my introduction to online, and probably one of my favourite games, although sometimes with a slightly unsatisfactory conclusion. It will be missed. I'll just have to get better at Ur. |

Samurai seems to be a very nice, quick tactical game. It's a pity I could not start my third game but I'm really gratetfull to MaBi for 2 chances to try Samurai game on-line.
Cheers. |
