A new game is ready for testing: Gods by Michael Schacht.
Like with Shadow of the Emperor, I will start with a few closed (passworded) games, and when I see that it's stable enough it will go to open beta-testing (this is a much simpler and shorter game than SotE, so it shouldn't take long).
Game mechanics are complete and just need to be tested, the interface is also almost finished but I am still in doubt about the right size for the tiles. This game doesn't have a fixed board and I still don't know the average final size. I'm aiming to avoid horizontal scrolling for a screen width of 1024, so I could reduce tiles' size in future if I see too many games going over this limit.

Volunteers for the first test games can join using the password 'olympus'. A pdf file with english rules is available on the designers' site. As always, please post bugs, comments and suggestions in the Gods forum or directly to me.

Thanks,
MaBi

It seems one user has bogged down the pre-beta testing on Gods. Perhaps we could start up some new games? Some of us are prepared to take 10 or more turns in a day, which could give you info a lot sooner.

Currently there are 8 games running, and I'm just waiting to see them finish correctly before opening the beta-test to all players. Anyway I will create a few more right now.

I noticed that all 2 player games, red and blue are the only colors used and then with 3, yellow gets used, while green is only used in 4 player.

Would it be possible to have those colors be more randomized? A silly request, I suppose, but personally, I'd like the chance to be green in 2 player games.

(Obviously even better would be to allow players to set a preffered color order for each game, or even change the colors based on a person's login, but I know those would require a lot of coding.)

In Samurai and Shadow of the Emperor it's the same: red and blue for 2p games, then yellow for 3 and then green. It would be very easy to randomize the colors, but I chose this order because I think they are easier to distinguish. Red and blue are the most contrasted, and I know that red and green can create problems to color-blinded people, so green is used only in 4-player games.
I agree that allowing each user to choose their preferred color would be the optimal solution, but this would be too difficult to introduce now (I should have coded this into the framework since the beginning :().

I guess I hadn't noticed there. Huh. Maybe because I've played those in person, while I'm learning Gods here. Or.. the colors don't have a "person" graphics associated with them in the others.

Well, better late than never: I have just started to work on the next game and the first thing I did was to introduce this new feature, which turned out to be quite easy to do if you plan for it since the beginning. So from the next game players colors will be fully customizable.
After experimenting this feature in the next game, and see how much useful it will be, I will consider the possibility to backport it in the older games (this would require quite a bit of work, and it would be easier for some games than for others, we'll see...)
