Fellow players,
I have a question concerning the rule applying when the Emperor tile is retired during phase IV. The manual (Rio Grande - english) state that, during phase II, the Emperor player must replace the Emperor tile if it retrire, but this can also happen during phase IV. What's the rule then? Do the player immediatly replace the Emperor tile (following the procedure of phase II) or do the throne remain empty until the election. If the latter is the case, do the player keeps the advantage of the emperor cities or must he have a baron on the throne?
I would like to know how it is implemented in mabyweb and if anyone knows why it has been implemented this way.

The implementation here is that whenever the emperor is removed it is immediately replaced, and I believe this is the correct interpretation of the rules.
Now I don't remember the reason for all the decisions I took when I coded the game a few years ago, but at the time I spent quite some time trying to clarify all the several doubts and ambiguities, checking on BGG forums and on the original german rules.
Your implementation is correct, as always. The english rulebook (2004) do not specify the rule for any other phase than the second, but somebody quoted me the rule from the german rulebook which is comprehensive: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/6227828#6227828
Thanks again for your time and bravo for your extraordinary site.
