As someone who just wants some casual 3 or 4 player games of Samurai, I find it strange that so many of the games are passworded. This is not fostering a healthy community scene and smacks of elitism.

I tend to play password-protected games, mainly because they've been set up outside of this site. If a group of friends wants to play a game together, that's hardly elitism.

most of the games i play here are open ones that i create, and i can't recall a time when one didn't fill in a matter of hours.

open games are probably "scarce" because their popularity causes them to start quickly, not because they never existed.

i don't think your accusations are fair. if you want a casual 3-4P game of samurai, i suggest creating one. people will join!

Yes, that's right, open games are the majority (of all the games played here so far, 61% were open and 39% closed) but in the "join page" the closed ones are always more because they stay there much longer.
Anyway, what's the problem with passworded games? They certainly don't prevent anyone to create a new open game. I alway play open games too, and if there is none to join I just create a new one!
I could easily add a function to auto-generate new open games, so there are always a few available, but what's the point? (actually, the reason I don't do it is because I'm sure it would considerably increase the total number of games on the site).

I think I may have found the answer to my original complaint.....I joined the next available game of Samurai and made my move, the next player did his very soon after and it's now been 8 days and the third player still hasn't done anything! Why do people join games if that's the speed they are going to play at? Can games be called off through lack of interest or due to players aging so much while waiting?

create your own game and specify "fast play", then. perhaps limit it to less players.

these are humans we are playing, not computers. things are bound to happen.

if a player does not make a move for 30 days, the game will be cancelled automatically.

The most important reason I love mabiweb is that it's non-realtime game. Why don't you just let it be? we can save time by not having to wait for opponents' move and there's no addiction problem. Think of StarCraft, man.

You play several games concurrently and you will have turns to play every time you visit mabi. :)
